About
Hi, my name is Gabriel, but you can call me Gabiru, I make games.
I started out as a solo developer, so I do a bit of everything, be it programming, art, design or music.
But I met a group of very talented people, and together we formed Calembur Studio an artistic collective.
“I’m an amateur at everything I do, but I do it.”
Forever an amateur, so that the love of art never dies.
Art exists because life isn’t enough.
— Ferreira Gullar
What does gabiru mean?
It’s a nickname derived from my real name, Gabriel.
Furthermore, it’s a word with several meanings.
- Gabiru is the clever one, the trickster.
- Gabiru is the cheerful one, the joker, the trickster.
- Gabiru is one of the devil’s names.
- Gabiru is the one who lives by the game (hehe).
Where I was born, in the northeast of Brazil, that’s what they call the black rat.
What do you do?
The areas I have the most practice/interest in are programming, tech art, 3D, level design, game design and writing.
But being a solo developer has made me learn a bit of everything, art, programming, design, UI/UX, music, etc. I have experience in almost everything, no matter how little. I love learning new things, I consider this to be my greatest asset as a professional.
Why do you make games?
I make video games to express myself, I want to bring my ideas into the real world so that others can experience them, and I want to hear what you think about my creations, always evolving.
My art is inevitable, so why not make it my career?
What are your favorite games?
- Bloodborne - For rekindling my love of games.
- Zelda - For making me a kid again.
- Spelunky - For being the most fun game ever made.
- The Last of Us - For revolutionizing the narrative of games.
- Disco Elysium - For its creativity and incomparable courage.
- Garry’s Mod - For making me meet so many friends.
